#105: In Need Of Rest.
But what type of rest? There is a minimum of 7 to choose from. Wow!
I felt very tired today. It wasn’t just physical, but also mental and emotional. So I thought.
But then I came across this article on «the 7 types of rest that every person needs».
Let me start with the three types I had already mentioned. We have all been there. Not enough sleep or physical exhaustion and we just don’t have the energy we need to make anything big happen. Your brain is on overdrive and doesn’t shut off. The same thoughts come back to haunt over and over again. And then there is the feeling of wanting to please everyone because you don’t feel like expressing your feelings openly.
There are many more reasons to rest. Believe me.
Start by not exposing yourself continuously to blue light from screens! And what about the noise from music, radio or TV running in the background without you paying attention? Sitting alone in a room is one of the biggest challenges of our time. That would be an effective way to enjoy sensory rest, though.
You know what it is like when your creativity simply doesn’t «flow». There is no space for the unexpected to show up, nowhere for magic to happen. As a strong believer in serendipity or lucky chance, I know exactly when the conditions don’t allow for it. That always makes me sad. It is like you know there is opportunity out there, but the door is somehow locked. That is when it is time for creativity rest.
What about staying away from certain people? It is called social rest. We all know who those are that suck the positive energy out of us (and everyone else surrounding them for that matter). When those moments take the upside, it is time to take a break.
Last but not least, there might be a need for spiritual rest, which is about connecting with something greater than yourself. I can think of hope or inspiration you take from observations of magic in nature.
I will definitely go to bed early today, which is unlikely to give me the “360 degree rest experience”. On the other hand, a well rested body is a solid foundation for all other types of rest.
So sleep well.
And rest well.
