First, there was a girl pushing her little baby doll pram, and I thought, how cute is she. Then came a boy running behind a ball. That wasn’t all of it.

In the morning, I was driving along Liechtenstein’s main road in my vintage Citroën HVan. The sun was shining and my window open. I had never ridden a Harley Davidson on Highway 101, but the feeling I had today must have been as close to that as it possibly gets in a car on an Alpine road.

Then I caught sight of this 2-year-old girl pushing her pink baby doll pram with one hand and holding one of her father’s finger with the other. The moment she saw me, she let go of her father’s finger, pointed at me and waved her tiny little hand with a big smile on her face.

I immediately waved back having held my hand out of the window already. She was obviously impressed by the car and hardly noticed me, but she saw me and I saw her.

Later in the day, I was riding my bicycle. Violating multiple traffic rules at the same time, I was riding hands-free while enjoying a really delicious hemp protein bar. That is how this little boy running after his football behind a fence right next to the road spotted me. He looked up, put on his brightest smile, took the ball in one of his hands and waved with the other.

All I did was smile and wave back at him. He must have thought that my hands-free riding was really cool, but he also saw me and I saw him.

What a day.

We were all strangers.

And yet, we saw one another.

Not only that. We sent each other a message.

«I see you.»

To which the other replied.

«I also see you.»
