#135: No Such Thing As A Point Of View.

It helps to be able to say that we agree to disagree. Even better to try to put yourself into someone else’s position. That might give you another point of view. What is it that it doesn’t do?

It doesn’t make you feel the other person’s feelings. It can’t. Unless you have lived through a similar experience, you can’t possibly say «I know what it’s like».

I tend to fall into the trap of defending my point of view so easily. The challenge is exponentially bigger when it relates to an action dating back to a long time ago. Yes, I did what I did at the time. Did it feel right back then? Could someone else take a different view on that today? Sure.

However, that can’t possibly be my point of view of that moment in time. Not even I remember what exactly went through my mind then.

I know what you think. Empathy is the solution. It is. Not an easy challenge, though.

There is no such thing as a point of view. It can only by mine, yours, hers or his.

Right now, I can’t go any further than to accept that we have different points of view. And we also feel differently about it.

It looks like a start. Something to build on.
