#145: Sorry, But Please Order Inside.

Some rules make perfect sense, others don’t. At times, it is their implementation that leads to hilarious results.

Today, I had one of those experiences.

Sitting outside on the terrace of a Café on this beautiful day, I asked for a famous local pastry and an espresso. The staff confirmed my coffee order and informed me that I would have to go inside to get my pastry. She couldn’t take the order outside. Hence, I did as I was told.

I stood up, walked to the entrance, waited there for a few minutes because of Corona related restrictions in relation to how many customers could be in the shop at the same time, went in and approached the counter. When I looked up, I burst out laughing.

The person standing behind the counter was the waitress who had accepted my espresso order while explaining to me that she couldn’t do the same for the pastry. So I ended up walking to my outdoor table with the pastry in one hand only to find my espresso already waiting there for me. As you can imagine, the espresso was lukewarm by the time I drank it, but the experience was well worth it. I had a blast.

No bad intentions, just following the rules. Most of the time, they have been established for a reason. On all other occasions, they hopefully entertain you.
