#32: Recipe
When did you last experience magic? What did it do to you? There must be a way to re-create it.
What I have in mind isn’t the act of pulling a rabbit out of a hat. I am not referring to that stage performance that kept us all speechless. Nor am I trying to dig into the realization that «this must have been magic because I couldn’t explain it».
What do we sense?
Feel?
See?
Smell?
Touch?
Hear?
What does it do to us?
What expectation, anticipation or desire does it create?
How does context contribute to the experience?
What is it? Can you pin it down?
The same way there is no such thing as the truth, but only a truth, there is no recipe for magic either. I have found that the closest you can get is to decompose a magical experience into its perceivable compounds and to change their quantity or quality.
Cut the dose of your attention into half
Add a teaspoon of care instead of half a cup
Let it rise for 10 minutes and not for 2 hours
Put in a heaped tablespoon of sense-making rather than a pinch
Substitute ego for heavy cream
Whatever the new outcome, the experience would have been a different one. No different from you being a different you now than who you were then.
Your ability to experience your environment as magical correlates directly with your ability and willingness to experience magic within yourself.
Funnily, it is all there. Has always been.
It starts with you, though.
That is the recipe.
