Who am I to disagree?

«Women talk.»

«That is something they do.»

«She talked about you. She said you keep everything locked up.»

«Well, that’s what men do.»

«Your sister’s nice. I like her. It can’t be easy for her. Her brother and her husband fighting over the same thing. Men should talk, too.»

«To you?»

It doesn’t really matter who is talking to whom here. And yet, context is important. The conversation takes place between a barmaid and a patriarch in post WWI Birmingham. It is just a movie script, so it isn’t real, although it could well be.

We have moved on since then, haven’t we?

I have no idea what makes it apparently so much harder for us. We seldom sit quietly in a pub, football stadium or business meeting. Most of us love to hear our voice and we do struggle with silence.

What needs to change for us to open up on how we feel, what bothers us or when we are just overwhelmed?

I know.

I need to talk, too.

To whom?

I know that one, too.

What about you?
