#76: Can Love Be Sin?

There is nothing wrong with a man talking about love. If only context didn’t matter.

A friend’s brother died unexpectedly. He fell asleep one evening and didn’t wake up the following morning.

Today was his funeral service in a catholic church. Several people spoke about their experiences with the deceased, one of them being his life partner. A man.

He talked about how much they loved each other and how he missed him already. It was sincere, personal and deeply moving.

I have no idea what went on in the priest’s head while he was speaking. What I do know is that the priest’s CEO out of Head Office in the Vatican had just issued a statement on the matter at hand: «God does not and cannot bless sin.» The church apparently «does not have and cannot have» the power to bless same-sex relationships.

It obviously isn’t a matter of love or sin, but of principle.

Hence, what I experienced today was an «act of sinful love» in the way that one human being openly and genuinely expressed his love for another human being.

That wasn’t sin.

Love cannot be sin.
