#86: Les Jeux Sont Faits.
We played poker tonight. I wasn’t in the mood somehow and that is how my game started off.
My initial strategy was not to play at all when I didn’t see any chances of winning. It is only reasonable to remind me that this is not what playing poker is all about. I know.
Playing the role of the observer for a while, I started taking my chances. I actually played the game. Some of my chips had already disappeared, but I was slowly winning them back.
I suddenly realized that playing actively increased my chances of winning exponentially. The same held true for my level of excitement.
One of the lessons I was taught said hat you had to play the people, not the cards. That is apparently old poker wisdom and applies to many more general aspects of life. Well noted.
The evening nonetheless ended on a hard awakening. I drove one of our guests home and got myself a speeding ticket on the way back. I was lost in thoughts on what to write in today’s story. Here we go. That realization came far too late.
Just unfortunate I didn’t play poker for real money.
